Less than 4 days until the start of the 2016-17 FTC Season.  This is a reminder that we have two create kick-off event scheduled and I encourage teams to attend a kick-off event. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the FTC program and find other teams in your area.

As a reminder, the kick-off events are official FTC events. Therefore, you must bring your printed team roster with you or a signed a FIRST consent form for each student and coach attending. The FIRST Consent and Release Form is attached to this email.

1.     Florida FTC Kick-off Events – The following is a repeat of the announcement that was included in Newsletter #1 distributed to teams last week. There are two exciting kickoff events schedule for September 10, 2016.  This will give you an opportunity to learn about the new FTC game and also make connections with other teams. To help us prepare for the event, please make sure you register your team for this event by visiting the “Event Registration” page at www.flfirst.org. There is no cost to attend either of the following kickoff events. Therefore, please make sure you register your team in the new FIRST account system and then register for the event by going to the follow web page:

Engineers from FPL and LexisNexis as well as FTC alumni will be at the FTC kick-off to help new FTC students and coaches. The facility will be open until midnight September 10th and reopen September at 8 am on Sunday. If you would like to have your team participate in the 30 hour build please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with team name and phone number. You will need to bring everything you need to build your robot and we will provide a table and technical support. This is a great way for rookie teams to get have a robot that drives Sunday evening. We will also be collecting used or new Legos for our "Legos for Kids who Don't Have Legos Program" that will be donated at Christmas to at-risk community center programs we are helping get started with FLL

2.      New Team Registration Process at FIRST– Florida currently has 56 teams that have completed the FIRST team registration process and I am expecting to have about 200 teams in Florida this season.  There is a big change in the registration process as the hold TIMS system has been replaced. The new system allows coaches that have teams in multiple FIRST programs (FLL, FTC, & FRC) to have a single place to manager all of their teams. I have received feedback from several Florida FTC teams that they are struggling with the new team registration process. FIRST has provide me with the following instructions on how to register your returning (Veteran) team for the 2017-17 season:

Programs will log into the Dashboard of their FIRST® accounts from the FIRST Homepage (

Overview of Registering a Veteran Team

Access your FIRST Account

  • Navigate from www.firstinspires.org homepage and Click on “Log In” at top right corner OR Navigate using the shortcut: http://my.firstinspires.org/Dashboard/
  • Login using your FIRST email/password (Your FIRST email/password would be the email/password you used for your TIMS, VIMS, or STIMS accounts.)

Update Your Profile

NOTE: BOTH LEAD COACH/MENTOR 1 AND COACH/MENTOR 2 MUST UPDATE THEIR PROFILE.

Once you log into the FIRST Portal, Click on “My Dashboard”. It may take a couple of seconds, but your Personal Information page will load.

Scroll down and fill out the missing information.

From here, the Second Coach/Mentor will be able to go through Youth Protection Screening (if applicable).

Access the Storefront

Once your Team has completed all the steps necessary to create your FIRST Tech Challenge Team (Create a profile in FIRST, invite two Coaches/Mentors, have both Coaches/Mentors pass Youth Protection screening) you are ready to Purchase your Season Registration Fee and order the necessary equipment.  Follow these simple steps to register your team:

1)    Log into your Team dashboard at https://my.firstinspires.org/Dashboard/

a.    If you have multiple teams, you will need to select the team you wish to register before proceeding.

2)     Click through to Storefront to place your order for registration and product.  If you have multiple Teams, you will need to select the Team you wish to register before proceeding to the Storefront. On the Dashboard of the Team you are registering, click “Pay Registration/Order Product”.

a.     You can pay your Season Registration Fee alone, or continue through the Wizard and purchase one item each from each Category (Control Set, Electronics Set, and Competition Set).

3)     Once in the Storefront, agree to the Storefront Terms and Conditions by selecting the checkbox on the Welcome Screen.

4)     The FIRST Tech Challenge registration will automatically be loaded into your cart.

5)     Select “Checkout”

6)     Enter your payment information and select “Submit Order”

Before you Submit Order

  • If you are expecting a grant through your FIRST® Tech Challenge account, do not submit your order until your grant funds appear in the Storefront.  If you are unsure how your grant funds will be allocated, please check with the entity supplying the grant before submitting orders in the storefront.
    1. Grants will appear on the Welcome Page.
  • If you are paying for your order via a purchase order, be sure to send a copy of the purchase order to Pitsco, as instructed when checking out.
  • If your purchase is exempt from the United States sale tax, be sure to send a copy of your certificate to Pitsco, as instructed when checking out.

Overview of Registering a Veteran Team

Access your FIRST Account

    • Login using your FIRST email/password (Your FIRST email/password would be the email/password you used for your TIMS, VIMS, or STIMS accounts.)

Update Your Profile

NOTE: BOTH LEAD COACH/MENTOR 1 AND COACH/MENTOR 2 MUST UPDATE THEIR PROFILE.

Once you log into the FIRST Portal, Click on “My Dashboard”. It may take a couple of seconds, but your Personal Information page will load.

  • Scroll down and fill out the missing information.

You will be redirected to the Dashboard once you have clicked “Save”.

  • You must click off the following information each new Season:
    • FIRST Terms and Conditions
    • FIRST Youth Protection Policies
    • FIRST Code of Conduct
    • Consent and Release (found on the Dashboard)

NOTE: Youth Protection Screening occurs every three years. Screening must be done before access to Storefront is granted.

Invite or Replace a Coach/Mentor from the Dashboard – if applicable

  • Click on “Manage Team Contacts/Roster” (If you have multiple Teams, select your Team by clicking the down arrow and selecting the Team)

  • Click on “Invite Replacement” (under Lead Coach/Mentor 1) or “Invite” (under second Coach/Mentor)

  • Complete the Contact information and click “Add”

  • Once all Contacts have been added, click “Invite Contacts”

Once you have invited your Second Coach/Mentor, you will have to return to your FIRST dashboard once they have indicated that they have completed their profile, accepted your invitation, and gone through screening. This may take a couple of days to finish screening, so make sure to keep encourage your Second Coach/Mentor to complete their profile and screening as soon as possible.

You are able to “Resend Invitation” or “Remove” the Coach/Mentor 2 and invite another individual to the role.

Locating Your Invitation

Once you have sent out your Invitation, your Second Coach/Mentor must Create a FIRST Account and return to the Dashboard and accept your Invitation. The Invitation is located on the taskbar (shape of an envelope).

  • Click on the Invitation & Click on “Accept”

 

From here, the Second Coach/Mentor will be able to go through Youth Protection Screening (if applicable).
