Greetings Florida FTC Teams, Volunteers, and Sponsors (Please distribute this email to your team members, parents, and mentors):

I am sure that many of our FTC teams on the south east coast of Florida have already started to evacuate in front of hurricane Matthew. Due to this significant storm heading toward Florida, we will be canceling the Tesla League volunteer training session that was scheduled for this Saturday, October 8, 2016. Everyone please be safe this weekend.

There is no change to the ROBOTICON schedule and the judge training that will be held at the USF Sun Dome on Saturday, October 8, 2016.  I have also received word that we will have a special FIRST guest at ROBOTICON this weekend.  I hope to see many of the FTC teams in the Tampa area at the Sun Dome on Saturday.

I am expecting to have at least 7 leagues in Florida this season and potentially as high as 9. However, we still have not finalized all of the league assignments due to the fact that we currently only have 120 FTC teams in Florida that have completed and paid the FIRST registration.  I encourage all coaches that plan on having a team this season to complete your team registration process as soon as possible. Without knowing the specific team count, it is also difficult for our leagues to finalize the league budget/fee and how many events will be needed.

This game has several FTC firsts: (1) this is the first time that FTC has had reusable scoring elements (referees will have fun scoring this game), (2) this is the first time there is an opportunity to use features of your phone onboard the robot, and (3) this is the first time since 2010 since we have seen the need for a shooter.  The game manual, game animation, information about ordering field elements, and all information related to VELOCITY VORTEX can be found on the following FIRST webpage: http://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/ftc/game-and-season-info
